Locker Nine Book One of The Locker Nine Series eBook Franklin Horton
Another strong offering from great new author. Very interesting change of point of view from his prior series. Focusing on a young college student as the lead character brought a different perspective to the survivalist issues. Forcing her to travel such a distance after the attack was effective and carried the reader along on the trip. I found the supporting characters, good and bad, to be stronger than in Franklin's prior series (which was also a really good series). Plotting and pacing here seemed more even and built to a nice confrontation at the end.Don't wait, buy it and enjoy !!

Locker Nine Book One of The Locker Nine Series eBook Franklin Horton Reviews
Another in the Post Apocalyptic, "getting from one place to another" sub-genre. This time two Frosh college girls at Old Miss. One is familiar with prepping and survival, and the other one typically lost. There is suddenly no law and order and the predators suddenly come out of the woodwork only hours after the nation-wide terror attacks. Not a real plausible situation, but---
As fiction often brings out the views of the author, this book lets us know that there are a lot of really evil (crazy) people out there; the society can change fairly quickly into a dog-eat-dog environment; you can't trust anyone in an emergency situation; those who don't quickly realize the dangers of such a situation and take prudent action, will not long survive and long term survival is best realized in groups of like-minded people. I am familiar with survival, but did learn a few things. I liked the AR pistol concept, which I hadn't thought much about but will now. The story could have been longer, but a good read nonetheless.
Franklin Horton is my favorite author from this genre. Locker Nine was an excellent story of a girl and her friend traveling post societal meltdown back home from college. I was at first turned off by her dad making so many preps for her. however, once I got past my own prejudice against this because I am a woman and I don't like women looking like they are weak and need men to take care of them, I was able to enjoy the book for what it was. A true survival book of a young woman whose father prepared her for this! After all, we all had to start somewhere on our path to learning self sufficiency and survival weather it be from a book or our father right? ;) the narrator does a great job in capturing the different characters and storyline. A narrator can make or break a book and this one definately makes it. I highly recommend this book either in readable or audible form or both of you are like me!
Excellent like Mr. Horton's other series (Borrowed World), but I didn't think the whole video game theme with Ray's story was very good. I felt it was kind of corny and weak. But overall I very much enjoyed this book, just like everything from the Borrowed World series, and couldn't stop reading it. This guy cannot write fast enough for me! Haha.
A standalone book in Horton's Borrowed World universe of terroristic driven apocalyptic books about the near future in the USA. I read the POD (print on demand) trade paperback printed with an excellent font. I do not think that there will be any more books in this particular spinoff but, who knows ? There is a fourth book coming out very soon in the most excellent main Borrowed World series as several people are copy editing it for the author.
BTW, the author had me at book description of "Grace Hardwick’s dad is a science fiction writer who makes his living destroying the world." Basically, the author explores what happens when your daughter is 600 miles away from home at college when the USA turns upside down. How does she make it home ?
And a friend of mine says this about Franklin Horton's books, "If I were to make one substantive criticism of Franklin’s work, it would be from personal preference. His dystopian novels are dystopic in spades. They can be painful to read. Kind of like a Russian comedy at the end, everyone dies horribly. Franklin does not have a very high opinion of humanity in general. Even most of his protagonists are not very nice people. But Franklin is, first and foremost, a story-teller. His writing makes you want to keep turning pages."
